One day I think I’ll do a long weekend post on music. It means a lot to me and actually most people, right? Just the right song or songs can really hit the spot and do a soul good. And the songs do not have to be Christian to hit the spot either!
I’m big into “timing” in case you haven’t noticed. I never see timing as accidental or coincidental, but rather something set in motion from another realm. To me there is nothing that can’t take place. Seriously, if you read about the precision of the creation of the galaxies, earth, moon, etc., you cannot come away not feeling like you have a gnat brain. Any intelligence that did that can do anything.
I read the comments this morning of last night’s post and somebody had put in a link about suffering. I said I’d listen to it on my walk today, and I did, which was to The Spot. (If you are new here, when I refer to The Spot, it is a hidden place I have placed some of Mo’s ashes).
The “sermon” was good, and I honestly feel like I’m suffering in a way that God is pleased. At least I hope so. I had quite a bit of walking left when it got over so I decided to tune into to Pandora today.
For me, the three songs, in order, it took to get me back to the car, definitely describe my journey.
Song #1. “Thy Will Be Done” The lyrics are below each link if you don’t want to listen right now.
"Thy Will" by Hillary Scott
I’m so confused
I know I heard You loud and clear
So, I followed through
Somehow I ended up here
I don’t wanna think
I may never understand
That my broken heart is a part of Your plan
When I try to pray
All I’ve got is hurt and these four words
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
I know You’re good
But this don’t feel good right now
And I know You think
Of things I could never think about
It’s hard to count it all joy
Distracted by the noise
Just trying to make sense
Of all Your promises
Sometimes I gotta stop
Remember that You’re God
And I am not
So
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will
I know You see me
I know You hear me, Lord
Your plans are for me
Goodness You have in store
I know You hear me
I know You see me, Lord
Your plans are for me
Goodness You have in store
So
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
I know You see me
I know You hear me, Lord
After this song came Toby Mac and “Faithfully”. I have linked to the song in another post before. He lost his son. He knows exactly how I feel.
It's been a long year, it almost took me down, I swear
Life was so good
I'm not so sure we knew what we had
I'll never be the same man
I'll never feel like I felt before (felt before)
It's been a hard year, it almost took me down
But when my world broke into pieces
You were there faithfully
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You made a way for me
I may never be the same man
But I'm a man who still believes
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You were there faithfully
I've had a hard time
Findin' the blue in the skies above me
And if I'm keepin' it real
I've been half-faking the happy they see
I may look like the same man
But I'm half the man I was (half the man I was)
It's been a hard year, it almost took me down
But when my world broke into pieces
You were there faithfully
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You made a way for me
I may never be the same man
But I'm a man who still believes
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You were there faithfully
In my darkest hour, You met me
So quietly, so gently
You said you'd never leave
And You stood by Your word
So quietly, so gently
In all my pain, You met me
You said You'd never leave
And You stood by Your word
'Cause when my world broke into pieces
You were there faithfully
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You made a way for me
I may never be the same man
But I'm a man who still believes
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You were there faithfully
When I cried out to You, Jesus
You were there faithfully
The third song is “Power to Redeem” by Lauren Daigle. Just this week I talked to the counselor about Morgan being in the process of dying and seeing Jesus there, recognizing Him, feeling His love, and moving toward Him. This is what I picture with some of these lyrics. “With breath that brings the dead to life”
REAL LIFE; NOT THIS TEMPORARY LIFE.
"Power To Redeem"
(feat. All Sons & Daughters)
You take what is
And you make it beautiful
When love floods in,
We're restored forever more
With breath that brings the dead to life,
With words that pierce the dark with light
Only by the blood are we set free.
With mercy strong to carry shame
And nail it to a tree You alone
Hold the power to redeem.
No guilt competes
With innocence crucified.
No grave can hold what your grace has justified.
With breath that brings the dead to life,
With words that pierce the dark with light
Only by the blood are we set free.
With mercy strong to carry shame
And nail it to a tree You alone
Hold the power to redeem.
Rejoice oh child of God
Lift your eyes to see
With every morning light,
Again we are redeemed
[x2]
With breath it brings the dead to life,
With words that pierce the dark with light
Only by the blood are we set free.
With mercy strong to carry shame
And nail it to a tree You alone
Hold the power to redeem.
Oh you alone, hold the power to redeem [x3]
The end of that song got me back to the car and home I drove. I hope songs do for you what they do for me. Feel free to comment about music or any other topic during open thread. Thanks for reading!
Thank you for sharing.
I totally agree with you about feeling like my brain is sooo small when compared to that of the Almighty Creator! I love a good song, and am also a Lauren Daigle fan, and l love each of those three you posted today. Do you ever listen to Skye Peterson? I just got to hear her in person last weekend, but I recommend "I Am Not My Own" with her and Keith and Kristyn Getty.
