A few years ago I began listening to a podcast by a woman named Alisa Childers. She had actually been a member of the Zoe Girls, a Christian band in the 90s or 2000s. I couldn’t tell you a song. I’m not even sure how I came across her, but every once in a while on my walks, I would choose her podcast. One day she had on a man named Hugh Ross, an astrophysicist who has written many books and started an organization many years ago called Reasons.org. I’ll put links to both that podcast and his web site at the end of this post.
His story was so interesting to me. He is Canadian by birth and is he on the autism spectrum. Back in the late 40s and 50s when he was a little kid, he was non-verbal. Many of his parent’s friends encouraged them to put him away in a home for special needs children. Thankfully they didn’t listen and eventually moved to another part of Canada. There in early elementary, he was seen as a stupid child and could have been held back or put in special classes. It was one teacher that took an interest and realized he wasn’t stupid, he knew things, he just couldn’t or wouldn’t speak or write correctly. Long story short, he was then educated correctly. He loved studying astronomy and was doing college level work way before college.
By the time he was finishing high school, he began to want to know answers that are more of the philosophical nature, i.e. religion and God. His parents were not Christian, and he claims he had no Christians in his environment. He began studying all the world religions on his own and came to the conclusion that only Christianity fit with science. He said as soon as he read the first couple chapters of Genesis, that he could see it fit correctly with the scientific method. After reading and studying the entire Bible, he gave his life to Christ, not knowing a single other Christian, and his story is fascinating.
The reason I like the few books of his I have read and listening to him explain things, is because he is so scientifically smart and understands Christianity and God and creation on a level I didn’t even care to question. I was happy enough with my little brain, where he had the curiosity to understand the really big questions and was able to see that God provided answers. I guess it’s the same with me for Jordan Peterson, who I mentioned in my first post. He says the Bible stories have all of these psychological implications.
A couple years ago, I had listened to and saved a talk Hugh Ross had given to a church in St. Louis entitled, “Why God Allows Suffering + Q&A - Dr. Hugh Ross”
https://www.youtube.com/live/aEJboUJVk4Y?feature=share
On Thursday this week, I pulled that one up and listened to it while I walked. The first part is the music and prayer part of the church service and his talk begins about 20 minutes in, with the part I liked best basically starting 40 minutes in. Then there is a question and answer period starting at about 60 minutes in. It was at this point, one of the pastors I think asked about why God allows people to die early. I didn’t remember this question from two years earlier, but I was very happy to hear the answer, and I think I even mentioned I thought this must be it, in this blog once.
He used Isaiah 57: 1-2 in his answer NLT. “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.”
Just like many of us, Morgan was not always on the most godly path. Off and on. Off and on. Who knows what her future held? God did! I truly trust that HE KNOWS BEST. My tiny tiny brain in this 3-dimensional world, as Hugh explains it, our space and time limitations make it impossible to comprehend much of anything, but there is enough out there to know God and to trust Him.
Just in case some of you have never had the reason or opportunity to question the science behind creation, I thought I’d put this post up so you all know that it is a lie when culture says science and Christianity can’t go together. This man is a treasure and there are other scientists on his site in other disciplines that see the same amazing revelations with the cells of the body as he does with the laws of thermodynamics. It’s all out there for the taking!
